Fort Meade Area Real Estate Update – Post Coronavirus

On March 13th the governor of Maryland ordered the closing of all schools sending a strong signal of the seriousness of the Coronavirus.

On March 14th the Department of Defense issued a stop movement order that impacted most military and DOD moves through May 11th 2020 and simultaneously banned domestic travel in an effort to halt the progression of the virus and protect our troops and contractors.

On March 23rd  all non-essential businesses in Maryland were ordered closed.

And as I wrote this on March 30th , Governor Hogan just issued a "Stay at home order".

These are unprecedented steps and no one really knows for sure the impact they will have on the local real estate industry.  Our job is to give you the best information we have as it develops.  If you haven't already done so, be sure to "like" us on Facebook for video updates!

Fort Meade, MD is the largest employer in our area and therefore an integral part of the home buying and selling population so we are sure to see immediate effects, right?  Well, not so fast…

Using Crofton, MD as a microcosm for the area overall and use the period 3/14/2020 forward it appears sales are remaining steady with some properties even receiving multiple offers.

There are currently 77 properties in the MLS for Crofton.  Of those, the status is shown below.

07          Coming Soon
12          Actively for sale
31          Active Under Contract & Under Contract dated after 3/14/2020
04          Temporarily off the market
06          Expired/Withdrawn
17          Closed/Settled

I actually had to adjust these numbers as I wrote this as another property went under contract!

The bottom line is, there are safe ways to sell or buy a property right now.  The Roskelly Team is following all CDC guidelines to ensure your safety and buyers are still out buying homes.  We have adequate supplies of disinfectant, wipes, gloves (for now) and are reading and conferring with as many sources as possible to make sure that we are doing that as safely as possible.

If you’re thinking of buying or selling a home in the near future, let’s talk about how that can be done safely in our strange new world!
